The family settled at Jager's Bay, Southport Narrows, and established a timber mill, built boats, developed the southern most orchard in the Huon, built an interesting homestead (the foundations and remains of gardens still exist). They later moved further up to the Lune River area, went into partnership with Tyler family as W H Tyler & A J Jager & Sons 1917 - 1923, built several famous boats, purchased the Parappa, and were involved in commercial fishing for many years. Handy Jager has written a booklet entitled the Needy and the Greedy for the Bicentennial Fisheries Project. the file also contains obituaries. Christina Jager (nee Tyler) had 24 children and was an Amazonian figure on the Lune. The jagers were of German origin and during both world wars were treated badly by some locals. Handy Jager's boat was searched by Commonwealth Policein Constitution Dock because it was alleged he was in radio contact with Germany.
