Description: Major Honner was the first free settler to be granted land in the area at what was then called the "Inner Bay" at Southport. Today this is known as Major Honner's Bay. The file consists of material based in the Archives Office of Tasmania, including articles from the Hobart Town Gazette, government documents, etc. The exact location of Honner's house was grid E483 N 652. It also consists of a paper written by Ken McCallum, 219 Grandview Rd, Rankin Par, NSW 2287. Further information on Honner's house can be found in Lady Jane Franklin's Journal of her visit to Southport and Recherche Bay. Lady Jane and her party of tourists discovered the foundations of Honner's residence and walked from Honner's Bay to the Southport Lagoon.
