Description: This c.1860's brick structure is situated at No. 19 Lyall Street in Westbury, Tasmania. In 1863 Police Constable John Fay from the nearby village of Carrick sold the house and land for 200 Pounds to Mr. Charles Harris, who was a local storekeeper. After Mr. Harris was accidently killed at Westbury on the 2nd of October 1889, the property passed into the hands of a State School teacher named Mr. Thomas Barrett for the sum of 300 Pounds. Whilst living in the house he conducted a private boy's school. One of his pupils who attended this House Of Learning was Master Harry Greenhill. After the death of Mr. Barrett in 1918 his widow Amy sold the property to Mrs. Jane Scott wife of Mr Walter Scott who was a local farmer for 375 Pounds. Mrs Scott sold the home to the War Service Homes Commission in 1920 for 530 Pounds. On the 16th December 1920 Mr. Aleck Nicholls who was a local carrier paid 530 Pounds for the dwelling. Mr. Nicholls sold the house and land to Mr. John Rainbird who was a skin dealer by trade for 700 Pounds on the 26th March 1925. Glen Ayr was purchased by the Greenhill family in the 1940's and has recently been offered for sale. This image was taken from the southern direction in October 2003.
